Autostrade cashback starts: refunds are requested through an app

As of today, 15 September, takes off the toll cashback service motorway which allows the partial or total reimbursement of the toll for the time lost due to the presence of construction sites on the network managed by ASPI (Autostrade per l’Italia). After a period of testing with a sample of users, the service is open today to everyone even if on an experimental basis until 31 / 12 / 2021, regardless of the vehicle class and the means of payment used.

However, ASPI underlines that the service will be made accessible to consortia and their associates in one phase subsequent, thanks to a dedicated adhesion process that will allow for retrospective recovery of the reimbursements relating to the itineraries traveled by 15 September.

The cashback service of the motorway toll is accessible through the Free To X application already available for both iOS and Android devices. Application that will also be used to know in real time the state of traffic on the highways. To make the request you must first register within the app to create your own account .

Users will be able to obtain a refund both for payments via Telepass and for those with credit, debit, Viacard and cash cards. Those who use the Telepass can enter the references relating to their device to automatically receive the notification of the right to reimbursement , limiting themselves upon confirmation of the itinerary. All those who use other payment methods, to request a refund, must send the photo, via the app, of the payment receipt collected at the exit toll booth (the acceptance notification should arrive in 24 – 48 hours).

Throughout the experimentation phase, reimbursements will be accumulated, for all types of payment, in the “purse” section and the credits will be issued starting from January 2022 , for transits made by 15 September, on your current account, by bank transfer or directly on the invoice in the case of users with Telepass.

But when are you really entitled to a refund? ASPI explains that it will only be possible for travel times exceeding the reference standards calculated on speeds of 100 km / h for light vehicles and of 70 km / h for heavy vehicles. Cashback will be paid exclusively in the event of delays generated by construction sites for works on the Autostrade per l’Italia network which affect the regularity of transits due to the reduction of the lanes originally available.

It can already be recognized for short itineraries, starting from 15 minutes late, allowing access to refunds from 25% to the 100% of the toll, based on the actual travel time and the length of the journey. ASPI has published a handy table that we report below, which allows you to better understand how the refund is calculated.

It should be noted that will not be taken into consideration delays caused by activities not related to ASPI such as heavy traffic (no reimbursement for special days such as summer exodus, for example), accidents, weather events and demonstrations.
