The time has come for the Ford Fiesta to indulge a makeover . The announcement was expected as forklifts of the new model had been intercepted on the road for some time during some tests. The car manufacturer says that the restyling brings with it several new features. In addition to a retouched design, there is a more complete technological equipment and an unprecedented engine with Mild Hybrid system. The new model can be ordered already in autumn with the deliveries foreseen in 2022.
The prices for the Italian market have not been disclosed for the moment. So let’s see the main innovations that the restyling introduces.
DESIGN AND INTERIORS
Speaking of design, the main innovations are at the level of the front which has been revised to give the car a more modern look. We find new LED headlights (standard on the entire range with Matrix LEDs on request) with a thinner design and a larger and redesigned grille. Inside, the Ford logo that was previously positioned on the edge of the hood also stands out. Behind, however, there are small changes to the headlights that have new graphics.
The American brand highlights that the Trend, Titanium, ST-Line and Active trim levels each benefit from unique stylistic elements along with an expanded range of exterior colors, wheel designs and interior finishes. For example, the ST-Line version is characterized by offering a more aggressive look and is recognized by a grille with a glossy black honeycomb pattern. In addition, the side air intakes are the same color as the body. The Fiesta Active, on the other hand, continues to offer a crossover look with increased ground clearance.
There are seven new alloy wheel designs available across the range, along with three new body colors: Boundless Blue, Beautiful Berry and, for the sporty ST, Mean Green. Speaking of the interiors, the restyling introduces more complete and modern technologies. For example, the display from makes its debut , 3 inches for digital instrumentation. Drivers will have the ability to customize the information that will be displayed. The connected infotainment with 8-inch touch screen features the SYNC 3 platform . There are voice commands and supports for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Through the FordPass application it will be possible to remotely manage some features of the car. The sportier ST version can count on sports seats with integrated headrests with contrasting red stitching and on a specific sports steering wheel with red details.
ENGINES AND SAFETY
New Ford Fiesta is offered with engines EcoBoost Hybrid 48 volts and EcoBoost . Speaking of the engines with Mild Hybrid technology, we find the EcoBoost Hybrid 1.0 unit offered with powers of 125 CV / 92 kW and 155 CV / 114 kW. Engine combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The EcoBoost Hybrid from 125 CV is also available with automatic Powershift transmission seven-speed dual-clutch. Speaking of fuel consumption and emissions, Ford declares 92 – 138 g / km of CO2 and 4.9-6.1 l / 100 for the model from 125 CV and 111 – 133 g / km of CO2 and 4.9-5.9 l / 100 km for version d 155 CV (WLTP).
Alternatively there is the EcoBoost 1.0 engine that delivers 100 CV / 74 kW (5.2-6.4 l / 100 km and 118 – 144 g / km of CO2 – WLTP). As for the sporty ST model, a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine pulses under the hood capable of delivering 200 CV / 147 kW at 6. 000 rpm and a maximum torque of 320 Nm from 1. 600 rpm at 4. 000 rpm. Performance is very good. The maximum speed reaches 230 km / h, while to go from 0 to 100 km / h need 6.5 seconds. CO2 emissions equal to 139 – 153 g / km and consumption of 6.1-6.8 l / 100 km.
The Ford Fiesta ST has the Track Mode which limits the interventions of the electronics for those who intend to try their hand at the car on the track. Speaking, however, of safety, the car integrates multiple ADAS systems including adaptive cruise control and the new Wrong-Way Alert and Local Hazard Information functions. There are also, depending on the equipment, Active Park Assist, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert and Active Braking, Lane-Keeping Aid and Pre-Collision Assist with Active Braking.
