Bad news for fans of movies and TV series based on robots, spaceships and superheroes. Three productions, one Disney and two Paramount, will experience less significant delays than originally planned. This is the TV series about Ms. Marvel and the next chapters of the Transformer and Star Trek franchises .
MS. MARVEL MOVES TO AUTUMN 2022
Ms. Marvel, a series focused on the Marvel character of the same name – aka Kamala Khan – will not see the light by the end of the year, as planned last summer, nor in the first months of the next: Christine McCarthy, Disney’s CFO, commenting on the financial results of the last quarter, confirmed that the release will take place in autumn 2022 . No further details have emerged on the content of the narrative, while it is already known who will play the superoina, Iman Vellani.
Ms. Marvel / Kamala Khan is a relatively recent character from the Marvel world, her appearance in the House of Ideas comics dates back to the end of 2013. Much older (1977) is instead that of Ms. Marvel whose alter ego is Carol Danvers. It is unclear how and if the relationship between the two Ms. Marvel will be dealt with over the course of the Disney + series. Long-time fans of Marvel superheroes will appreciate the super powers reminiscent of those of a historic icon of the brand, Mr. Fantastic. Meanwhile, fans can console themselves by taking control of Kamala Khan in the video game Marvel’s Avengers, which has been available for more than a year on major platforms.
Disney did not specify the reasons for the delay, but it must be borne in mind that in recent months the pandemic has caused many problems for film and television productions, with particularly evident delays in the chained contents such as Marvel’s – see the multiple slips of the planned releases for next year.
TRASFORMERS AND STAR TREK: UP TO 1 YEAR DELAY
You change cinema house , but it doesn’t change the result: Paramount is delaying the release of two of its most anticipated films , Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the next chapter of Star Trek. The former was originally scheduled to debut on 24 June 2022 but will arrive in cinemas only on 9 June 2023 , thus accumulating a little less than a year of delay.
The protagonist of the film will be Antony Ramos (Hamilton, In the Heights ) , together with Dominique Fishback: the story will be set in 1994 and will take place partly in New York and partly in Peru, shortly after the events of Bumblebee. There will be narrative elements and characters able to satisfy the most avid fans: there will be the Maximal (descendants of the Autobots), the Predacons (descendants of the Decepticons) and the Terrorcons (group of Decepticons who turn into mythological beasts). And yes, along with other Autobots, there will also be an Optimus Prime. The film will be directed by Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II).
Details on the next Star Trek movie are scarcer : no details are known about the story, nor about the cast, but it is known that it will be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) and that the screenplay is by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The original release date of June 9 2023 – now occupied by Trasformers: Rise of the Beasts – has been moved six months to 13 December 2023 .
