OXFORD, GA – It is almost that time of the year again. Finals are coming up, and it’s time for both freshmen and sophomores to put away the Frisbees and crank out the papers. Before we part ways with our party hats we do have one more event to look forward to, and that’s the Tavern Party hosted by Oxford’s oldest social club: Dooley’s Dolls.
This year’s exuberant theme is “devils and angels”, a theme that was thoroughly discussed and decided within the Dolls according to the their Secretary, Skylr Martucci.
“We wanted a theme that was different from our previous themes; one that people would be more invested in–because last year, not a lot of people came in costume,” Martucci said. Rush Chair Giles Hinders added, “The theme gives people an excuse to dress-up and have fun”.
The Dolls decided to give especial thought to the students who do not necessarily enjoy themselves at the Tavern Parties, which is why they co-hosted with SAC and CLC daytime activities like a dunk tank and a laser tag event.
“We realize that tavern parties are not everybody’s thing, which is why we give the students several options,” Hinders explained.
These fun festivities are aimed to raise awareness and donations for The Atlanta Children’s Shelter, a local refuge in Atlanta providing emotional and educational support for families. There will also be a blood drive open to both students and faculty, and because of this President Alim Barnes advises that students should be careful should they decide to donate.
“It is important to know that if you decide to donate blood you should not be engaging in activities later on that day such as dancing,” Barnes explained. It is very clear to each member of the Dolls that safety comes first, as they would not like history repeat itself.
Barnes enthusiastically ended on the note, “Be safe and smart, but don’t forget to have fun!”
