Art in All Forms Fills Candler as Part of SGA’s Art Week

The Student Government Association Arts Committee hosted and Arts Gala on Wednesday, Feb. 21 as part of Arts Week, a week long celebration of the arts on Oxford’s Campus. The event featured dance and vocal performances held in the Rathskeller, as well as visual arts displays in the Hossain Kabir Room. Assorted cheese and crackers, a variety of fruits, chocolate fondu, and an array of sweets.  

The performances kicked off with the song “.“ performed by …. Iman Ali and first-year Cassie Ang on piano. Ali dedicated the song to survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence.   Second to preform was first-year Avery Hampton with an oringinally choreographed dance to the song “Same Drugs” by Chance the Rapper. Original vocal pieces were performed by Nate Sun and Mekhi George. OxJazz also made an appearance, preforming “Take 5” and “Blue Skies.”

In the Hossain Kabir Room, visual art by Noah Cosimano-White, Michelle Mugo, and Lindsey McKay, and Ral Vandenhoudt was displayed.

Overall, the event was decidedly a success, with great turn out and loud applause for all the performances.
