The Game Awards 2021, what will be the GOTY? Here are the candidates (and Forza is not there)

Also this year has arrived that moment. The night of the “videogame Oscars”, that is the night of the The Game Awards 2021 set for December 9 , is close. And then the veil finally falls on all the nominations for the numerous statuettes up for grabs, starting with the most prestigious, that of the Game of The Year (GOTY, for friends).

Last year in terms of videogame releases, as was to be expected, it suffered a lot from the pandemic backlash. Not for this, however, there were no exceptional titles. In 646 to triumph was The Last of Us Part 2 of Naughty Dog: at this round, however, the six games that will compete for the prestigious title are Deathloop , It Takes Two , Metroid Dread , Psychonauts 2 , Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Resident Evil Village .

There is at least one excellent exclusion , however, which is making noise and is destined to cause a lot of discussion. In fact, the recent Forza Horizon 5 is missing from the list of eligible candidates , which on the other hand appears in three other categories, namely Best Audio Design, Innovation in Accessibility, Best Sports / Racing. The Microsoft exclusive is the title that recorded the best launch ever for an Xbox Studios game, and has garnered excellent critical and public acclaim (we told you about it in our review).

Among the publishers, however, Xbox Game Studios

(which from the acquisition of the Zenimax group onwards also include Bethesda) have collected more nominations: they are 20 in total. Following, with a significant detachment, are the PlayStation Studios with 11 nominations, while Nintendo has 7 (and has monopolized the Family Games category with 4 out of 5 titles), as many as Capcom and less than Electronic Arts and Square Enix, both a 10.
